Medtral New Zealand Directors
Dr Edward Watson: Executive Chairman, Director
MBcHB. MBA, DRACOG, FRNZCGP
Dr Watson is the founder of Medtral New Zealand. He has worked for many years in biotechnology and pharmaceutical development. Through his involvement with numerous clinical trials, Dr Watson noted the huge difference in costs between New Zealand and the USA, but no difference in the quality of the medical service and procedures performed. He realized that this exceptional value combined with our spectacular scenery and sophisticated tourist infrastructure gives New Zealand enormous potential as a medical tourism destination.
Dr Watson’s aim is to produce a medical travel experience of the highest quality for people seeking non-acute surgical treatment. He is confident that New Zealand is perfectly placed to be at the forefront of such a service, as we have a first world health care system with highly experienced, well trained specialists and excellent private hospitals.
He believes in a holistic approach to treatment, achieved by fostering a close relationship with the patients’ doctors in their own country. This relationship results in relevant diagnostics tests being undertaken before arrival in New Zealand and appropriate follow up once the patient returns to their home country.
Dr Watson is also aware of the risks of having such procedures in a foreign country and has put contingency insurance in place for all patients. This insurance means that even though the risk of a serious adverse event is extremely low, if it should occur the patient will be treated appropriately and returned home when ready.
