New Zealand Medical Qualifications
New Zealand medical training is based on the British system. The primary medical qualification required to practice as a doctor is MbcHB degree or Bachelor of Medicine and of Surgery. This is the equivalent of the MD degree received by American doctors.
Specialist qualifications relate to the college that governs them. Hence a qualified surgeon will have a specialist qualification or fellowship from either the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) or the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
